The site is located in the Pico station in downtown Los Angeles, surrounded by an abundance of high-rise housing and a few restaurants. The station is the primary pedestrian connection to a circular loop bridge. It combines the station with the neighboring residential buildings’ clubs, restaurants, retail, and public parking. Below the loop bridge is a plaza where tourists can stay and rest, with plenty of greenery and fountains, like a public park. The right side of the club is mainly used as a food tray storage and transportation place. On the roof is a small garden, which can be accessed through an orange-colored loop bridge. The entire project has an angular, curved roof design, and the zigzag glass design element is used as a highlight for both the station and the hub. At the same time, the arched walls made of stone bricks add an industrial effect, and a column in the shape of a tree supports the loop bridge. The same design elements are used in the restaurant and retail to achieve a balanced effect.
As the main transportation channel, a conveyor belt can transport food from the station to the growing hub and from the hub to the station as a two-way transportation channel. The conveyor belt is mainly transported underground, located in the basement. The food is transported by robot arm as the primary transportation technology.
The ceiling of the Waffle structure is made of wood, combined with an arched wall made of stone tiles, and serves as the main entrance to the station. The train station’s roof is triangular, which allows more sunlight into the station’s interior, creating a good lighting effect and a view through the atrium to the outdoor landscape.
